POPULAR school office manager Judith Senior was given a glittering send off when she retired after 34 years.

St Ethelberts RC Primary School in Deane organised its very own Oscars ceremony to mark the occasion and Mrs Senior won four coveted "awards".

They were for best supporting actor for her artistic interpretation of the Christmas bauble in the nativity play, an Academy Award for her depiction of The Village People, an award for her dancing abilities and finally another for her behind the scenes support.

Unbeknown to Mrs Senior, the school had organised an awards ceremony to thank her for being a part of the school for more than 30 years.

She was taken to school in a chauffeur driven car where her fans were waiting in the school playground — then she was whisked away by three security guards to the awards venue where she was presented with her Oscars.

Mrs Senior, aged 66, who lives near the school, said: "I was told not to arrive at school too early and as I left my house, there was an executive car waiting. There was a church service at which the children sang, which was lovely — and little did I know when we got back to school there was more to come.

"Two male members of staff dressed as security guards and a boy came to the office and took me to the hall.

"The hall had been decorated, it looked amazing — I can't believe the children kept it quiet.

"I can honestly say I had no idea. All this work had been put into the day, and there was so much love, it was amazing and so overwhelming.

"I have loved every minute of working at the school and I really enjoyed the experience of going to the Oscars — it was unbelievable and I did feel like a star."

The married mum-of-three, and grandma to six has worked at the school for 34-years, where she has joined in with school events and offered parents support — all of which was acknowledge with an award.

Mrs Senior said: "The school is like a family, children of former pupils at the school come here.

"I have received so many lovely messages from pupils, staff and parents.

"I have made so many friends."

Mrs Senior, who has now been invited to become a school governor, is looking forward to travelling more with her husband Les.

She laughed: "We really enjoy travelling — they call me Judith Chalmers at school!".
