FROM Darth Vader to Doctor Who — a new event is coming to Horwich with famous faces from the world of television and film.

Bolton Comic-Con will take place in the Premier Suite at Bolton Whites Hotel, The Macron Stadium, on Sunday, to showcase retro computer games and memorabilia galore.

Organiser Paul Prescott has lined-up an array of celebrity guests including John Challis, who played Boycie in Only Fools and Horses, and Sean Kelly, T-Money and Green Mile, from American programme Storage Hunters.

From the world of science fiction, Peter Davison, the fifth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who, from 1981 to 1984, and Sylvester McCoy, the seventh incarnation of the Doctor, between 1987 and 1989, will appear.

Other star guests will include David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy; Kai Owen, who plays Rhys Williams in Torchwood; Game of Thrones and Star Wars: Episode VII actor Miltos Yerolemou and Paul Blake, Greedo in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Last year, Mr Prescott held the first successful Wigan Comic-Con followed by another which was attended by 3,000 people in December.

Mr Prescott, whose Wigan shop Funky Figures sells collectables, toys and comics, said: "There's a lot of stuff going on, we've got some really good celebrity guests.

"A lot of people will be dressed up.

"I run Wigan Comic-Con, I've done that now for nearly two years.

"With that, we get people from a few months old to aged 80.

"I set it up as a small traders fair to generate some business but, in reality, the event is a lot bigger than the shop now."

He is hoping to repeat the success of his Wigan event in Horwich and there will also be stalls and retailers selling comics, artwork, jewellery, T-shirts, toys and collectables.

He said: "It's a big venue and we have got some good guests."

The famous couch from animated series The Simpsons will be there for people to sit on and take pictures, as well as a replica of Lightning McQueen from children’s favourite Disney film Cars.

Laura Thompson, national business development manager at Bolton Whites Hotel, said: “We’re always happy to support local and national events and exhibitions and we’re really looking forward to welcoming the host of special guests and visitors alike.

"It is going to be a great day out for all members of the family with lots to see and it isn’t too late to put the event into your weekend plans.”

Doors to the Bolton Comic-Con open at 11am until 4pm with tickets available to buy on arrival priced £6 per adult and £4 for children, aged six to 12. Entry for children under five is free.
