A TAKEAWAY owner was horrified when he arrived at work to find that yobs had thrown a huge concrete slab through his front door.

The thugs also snatched £100 in cash from the restaurant's till after smashing their way into Kebabish in Derby Street, Daubhill.

Aadarsha Shrestha had shut Kebabish at about one o'clock in the early hours of Wednesday morning — and when he returned at about 8am for work, a scene of destruction awaited him.

Shards of glass covered the floor of the takeaway and the till was open, while the thieves had also taken food from the fridge and freezer in the kitchen.

Mr Shrestha even lost the items they had left behind as the fridge and freezer doors had been left open, exposing the food.

He said the thieves had tried to break in to his business three days earlier via the back door but were unsuccessful.

The 28-year-old said: "I am just shocked really.

"I need to replace the glass now and clean up.

"I can't understand how they could do this in Derby Street, such a busy main road. You think that someone must have seen them.

"Some lads broke the lock on the back door just three days ago so I wonder whether it's the same people coming back."

Kebabish has been open in Derby Street for nine months and Mr Shrestha said this is the first time it has been victim to such a crime.

They dropped a £20 note on the floor in their escape from the takeaway.

No arrests have been made, and police are appealing for information.

They have not been able to find any CCTV footage covering the street or the inside of the business, but they were scouring the scene for fingerprints during the day on Wednesday

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 8.25am to a report that a large concrete slab was used to smash a lower glass pane of the front door.

"About £100 in cash was stolen from the till before the thieves fled.

"We do not have descriptions of the offenders or any CCTV footage taken in the area."

The break-in came just two days after a gang armed with a meat cleaver, kitchen knife and gun robbed Madina Jewellers in Derby Street, stealing cash and jewellery.
