IT may be March but snow and ice could still be on its way, with a severe weather warning issued for the North West tonight.
The Met Office has put out a yellow weather warning – advising people to 'be aware' – this evening and says the region is at risk of snow and ice until tomorrow morning.
There will be heavy showers overnight in Bolton, with higher areas possibly seeing some snow.
Snow may also fall on lower levels in some areas of the North West, with ice expected to be an additional hazard across most of the region.
The Met Office is advising the public to be aware of tricky travel conditions and possible disruption to transport tomorrow morning.
The Chief Forecaster’s assessment states: “Snow and ice may present some problems, in particular for road travel on Monday morning.
“Problems should reduce steadily further into Monday morning as the March sunshine gets to work melting the snow.”
Bolton Council's eight gritter drivers are currently out on a full route grit, and a team will be on standby from midnight to carry out more gritting if needed.
