A PENSIONER is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Bolton.
The 78-year-old suffered a broken leg and broken ribs after being hit by a Toyota Avensis on Thicketford Road at about 8.50pm last night.
The woman has been named locally as Mildred Florence and is thought to have been on her way home from bingo at St Augustine’s Court, a sheltered housing facility on Thicketford Road when the collision happened.
Her condition is described as serious.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I only heard about it this morning and that she wasn’t in a good way. It is terrible.
“The lady walked with two walking sticks and lived near here.
“She was a nice lady and I hope she makes a speedy recovery.”
Another said she had seen the police cars and that it was strange as the road was normally quiet at that time.
The road was closed while police investigated the cause of the crash.
The driver has not been arrested but police are appealing for witnesses, who should call 101.
