FROM activities to mark the meaning of Easter to a charity musical festival, there is plenty to see and do in Bolton next bank holiday weekend.

With many people off work for four days — from Good Friday to Easter Monday — and children off school, it is the perfect time to get together with friends and loved ones.

Here is our pick of what's on across the town.

An Easter fun day will take place in Victoria Square next Saturday, from 11am until 2pm.

Fun activities will include egg painting, palm cross and card making, as well as an Easter egg hunt around the stalls with winners receiving Fairtrade Easter Eggs from CLC Christian bookshop and Justica, which tell the story of Easter.

There will also be special guests including The Ladybridge Singers and dance groups, as well as Bolton FM sharing music and interviews throughout the day.

Actors from Passion for Bolton will entertain the public, with street theatre, as a prelude to the Passion play which has been postponed to take place in 2016 due to the closure of the Albert Halls for refurbishment.

Bolton Christian Community Cohesion will lead the free family-orientated event, which will also have a practical side to give help and support for families to tackle challenges such as debt or joblessness.

Caroline Wyke, project manager for Bolton Christian Community Cohesion and Passion for Bolton, said: "There will be lots to come and see and do."

The Bishop of Bolton, the Rt Rev Chris Edmondson, is expected to address people in the square at noon.

Youngsters are in for a treat when Peppa Pig visits Market Place Shopping Centre.

The cartoon favourite will be making personal appearances at intervals between 11am and 4pm next Saturday.

They will also be able to take part in Peppa’s Muddy Puddles Treasure Hunt, using clues to solve a missing word.

Every child who takes part in the activity will receive a certificate to take home.

Youngsters can celebrate Easter by making a card at High Street Library, anytime between 9am and 5pm.

There will also be free Easter family-friendly 'crafternoons' activities at Hall i’ th’ Wood, between 1pm and 3pm. Both events will take place next Saturday and there is no need to book.

The B Charity Music Festival will take place at five Bolton town centre venues on Easter Sunday.

Acts including The Jade Assembly, Our Fold, Lime Chase, Jordan Allen, Bone Idols, Neurosync, The Evil Stepsisters and Faster Than Bulls will perform throughout the day.

A mix of indie, folk, acoustic, rock and metal, the venues taking part are the Blind Tiger and The Bar, both in Nelson Square, the Alma Inn and the Karaoke Bar, in Bradshawgate, and the Blue Boar, Deansgate.

Wristbands cost £3 for entry to all venues throughout the day and money raised will go to The Sanctuary: Bolton, Bolton Ear 4 Kidz and Autism Aware.

A family fun day will be held at Kearsley Cricket Club on Easter Monday.

There will activities and entertainment including fairground rides, bouncy castle, crazy golf, beat the goalie, a tombola and raffle at the Springfield Road club between 1pm and 5pm. Entry is free.
