THE Financial Times newspaper, published by Pearson, announced plans yesterday to launch a German language newspaper through a joint venture with Gruner & Jahr, one of Germany's leading publishers.

The paper, the title of which is yet to be decided, would be published on pink paper and would prominently feature the Financial Times brand.

Gruner & Jahr is 74.9%-owned by Bertelsmann, one of world's leading media groups. The balance of 25.1% is held by the Jahr family of Hamburg.

Andrew Gowers, former deputy editor of the Financial Times, will be editor of the new title.
