KEEPING fit and healthy is a family affair at a Westhoughton primary school.

For when year two pupils at St James' CE Primary School in Daisy Hill started studying healthy living as a topic they decided to get their parents and other relatives into school to learn about it too.

And they took it one step further by inviting their parents and relatives to take part in an exercise workout session run by Urvision PT.

As well as finding out how much fun exercise can be, children also learned about the body and its organs, health eating including the five different food groups.

Youngsters interviewed the school cook and looked at the different food menus in school.

Teacher Melissa Wolfenden said: "The children have enjoyed a personal training session with Adam and Rob from Urvision personal training as well as interviewing the BBC Sports Report Nick Hope who visited school and enjoyed tasting delicious healthy snacks the children had prepared at home.

"He answered questions the children had come up with and joined in with a dance and a song."

She added: "The children thoroughly enjoyed the topic and learnt lots about Healthy Living.

"The staff feel like it has a real positive effect on the children's attitude to being healthy and it has been thoroughly enjoyed by children and staff alike."
