The first stage of the Skye bridge is towed into place, and positioned

on the seabed in 50ft of water. The 2327-tonne concrete caisson, which

will form the base for one of the bridge piers, had been towed from its

dry dock at Kishorn, 10 miles away. The caisson, 15 metres in diameter,

will be filled with 2250 tonnes of concrete. The bridge is scheduled for

completion in autumn 1995.
