THE appeal against a two-day suspension by jockey Richard Quinn

backfired yesterday when he had the ban doubled to four days.

Quinn had been found guilty by the York Stewards of careless riding in

the McIvor Scotch Whisky Handicap last Thursday.

He passed the post first on Silver Groom, but was demoted to second

and suspended for two days after having been adjudged to have interfered

with runner-up Zajko.

The Jockey Club disciplinary committee heard evidence from Quinn,

Zajko's rider Tony Ives, and Silver Groom's trainer Reg Akehurst, and

watched a video recording of the race.

The committee found that Silver Groom had hung right into the whip and

caused interference to Zajko.
