IT COULD have been a scene from the film Restless Natives -- two men

wearing novelty masks bungle a bank robbery and make their getaway with

one clinging to the roof of the car.

Now police are looking for three men, one who wore a clown mask and

wig, another wearing an old-man style rubber mask and the driver of the

getaway car.

The two robbers bungled the raid at the TSB bank in Rutherglen

yesterday after being confronted by a bank customer who forced them to

drop the money.

The two threatened staff at the bank with what appeared to be a gun

and demanded money.

As the men ran off with a bag of money the struggle with the bank

customer ensued and the raiders were forced to drop the money and one

lost his mask.

The bank customer -- an ex-police officer -- was struck across the

face but continued to pull the money from the raiders.

Running from the bank, the maskless robber managed to get into the

waiting getaway vehicle but the second robber -- still wearing his clown

mask -- was forced to jump on the roof of the car driven by a third man.

The car stopped round a corner to let in the man on the roof.

After abandoning their first car -- a red Vauxhall Cavalier -- the men

got into a small white car and sped off into the Toryglen area.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the raid or anyone who may have

seen the exchange of cars.
