A BUSKER'S song about Bolton is becoming a runaway success - and as a result it is now available as an MP3 download.

The song, Bolton Town, was penned by singer-songwriter Nick Bold.

He was inspired to write it after years of entertaining shoppers in the town centre.

A video of the song, which Nick performs with bandmate Linda Jennings, has been placed on The Bolton News website and has attracted web readers in droves.

They called for it to be made available for use on MP3 players and as a mobile phone ringtone.

And we were happy to oblige. Readers can now head here and download it, with most of the money going to our GHarden of Tranquillity Appeal for Bolton Hospice.

A chorus of people are urging record bosses to snap him up.

Nick, who has toured with rock legend Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and recorded an album with Roger Taylor from Queen, has been overwhelmed by the support.

He said: "I am very flattered. Of course, I would love to play at Reebok.

"It would be great if all the people who like it would get behind my band and they can check out my website for a gig list.

"I'm looking forward to hearing that ringtone all over Bolton."

The song brings in many of Bolton's heroes past and present, including Fred Dibnah, Nat Lofthouse and Peter Kay.

But it also pays tribute to the ordinary folk who make the town great.

For more information about Nick, who once performed as George Harrison on Stars in Their Eyes singing the hit My Sweet Lord, go to www.nickbold.com.

How about a LancoVision Song Contest between North West towns shown on Granada? We should sing our praises of the lovely North West more often.

I saw Nick tour with Jimmy Page, so it's not all hype as suggested in the Howcroft.
In fact I still have the programme, Nick sold me.
Great tune, very imaginative to sing about Bolton and mention Fred Dibnah.
High sixes all around.

The song is utter tripe of course, but the laugh is on the Bolton ratepayer. A few years ago Bolton Council paid out over £20k to have a song recorded. That masterpiece made this dirge sound like John Lennon.

The Nick Bold Band - comfortable with mediocrity.
we can whip your **** anyday, you know who we are. A middling lead singer, a no more than competent drummer (listen to some Miles Davis, baby), and a total space cadet. Rock on.

Here's my tune for Bolton. Altogether now.
I punched a guy
Down on Bradshawgate
Spewed my ring
Down by the Croal
Spent my money
In a lap dancing bar
Dirty old town
Dirty old town

Bought some ****
In a new pound shop
Watched the chavs
On the Town hall square
Threw my wrapper
Down on the street
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
