IRISH comedian Dave Allen was at large in Glasgow in 1974 when he stopped off for a book signing.

Quite who his firemen pals are though, we're not sure. Perhaps the funnyman's cigarette, one of his stage and TV trademarks, was perceived as a fire hazard. It's just as well he wasn't armed with his other stage stand by, a large glass of Irish whiskey, or the whole bookshop could have gone up. Now that would have given him material for one of his rambling stories.

The funnyman was a favourite with Glasgow audiences and, in the 70s and 80s, regularly brought his show to the King's Theatre.

He died, aged 68, in 2005. Do these pictures bring back any memories, or have you any old photos you'd like to share with our readers? Write to Evening Times, 200 Renfield St, Glasgow G2 3QB or e-mail letters@eveningtimes.co.uk , marking your subject field 'Memories'.
