UPSTAGING the prime minister was all in a day’s work for an adorable Westhoughton six-year-old.
David Cameron read from The Paper Bag Princess, by Robert Munsch, during a visit to Sacred Heart RC Primary School in Westhoughton today.
“Chatterbox” six-year-old Lucy Haworth was completely unfazed – pulling a series of faces, and even resting her head on the table.
Her friends Joshua Davies, Pheobe Colley and Will Spibey, all aged five, also met Mr Cameron with teacher Kiran Kasbia.
But the prime minister appeared confused about the plot of the book, which sees a princess rescue an ungrateful prince from a dragon.
"Complicated stuff, this," he said.
Lucy’s mum, 33-year-old Nikki Haworth, said: “She was not scared, she is like that with everyone. She is such a chatterbox, she does not stop talking.
“She loves reading, but more than anything is into gymnastics.”
Lucy, of Collingwood Way, Westhoughton, is a pupil at Sacred Heart alongside 10-year-old sister Abby.
Mrs Haworth, who is a stay-at-home-mum, said she and husband Brett think the school is “fabulous”.
She added: “I was really surprised when I heard Lucy had met David Cameron – we did not know he was going to be there today so I could not believe it when I heard.
“Lucy said he was really nice, and he was helping her to read. She said she did not know he was the prime minister until today.
“She was not putting the head on the desk because she was unhappy, I think they were just joking around.”
