A SIX-YEAR-OLD who became the unexpected star of the election campaign has made her television debut.

Westhoughton youngster Lucy Haworth became a little celebrity after she rested her head on the desk and pulled a series of comical faces as the Prime Minister read to her during a visit to Sacred Heart RC Primary School in Westhoughton on Wednesday.

On Monday, the year one pupil and her mum Nikki, aged 33, were guests on daytime chat show Loose Women.

On the programme, the photograph of Lucy was described as the panel’s “favourite picture of the election so far,” as well as a “warning to all politicians who dare to mess with children”.

Lucy became bashful when she was interviewed by panellist Ruth Langsford, admitting she did not know who Mr Cameron was when he sat down next to her but thought he was “nice”.

Nikki, of Collingwood Way, Westhoughton, explained Lucy had become stuck on a word, and the Prime Minister was helping her read it.

She added on the show: “When I got home from picking her up from school I had texts from hundreds of people. I laughed at first and then I thought 'oh no, what has she done?'”

Mr Cameron read from The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch during Wednesday’s visit, which also saw him discuss new Tory plans to bring in SATs resits.
