RECORD collectors and vinyl fans from Bolton will be in a spin today as they rush to get their hands on the latest exclusive releases.

More than 220 shops are taking part in Record Store Day, including X-Records in Bridge Street.

Now in its eighth year, the biggest celebration of independent record shops sees them come together with singers, acts and bands to celebrate the art of music.

Special vinyl releases, along with various promotional products, are made exclusively available for the day and last year saw buyers queuing outside X-Records from the early hours.

Steve Meekings, owner of X-Records, said: "We've got over 400 pieces including a new Noel Gallagher 12in, exclusive to the day, and a Prodigy 7in.

"Then there's a cheesy A-ha one.

"It goes all across the different genres — from hardcore punk to Northern Soul classics."

The shop opened at the earlier time of 8am today to meet demand for the event, which lures young and old music fans alike out of the house and onto the high street.

This year — more than ever before — there are a number of titles aimed at attracting first-time vinyl buyers.

Indie rock band The 1975 sent Twitter into a frenzy by announcing details of four 12in EPs of Facedown, IV, Music for Cars and Sex.

George Ezra’s debut album Wanted on Voyage is also released as a limited edition picture disc and Calvin Harris’s debut number one album Motion is out on a double LP for the first time.

Imagine Dragons have produced a 7in picture disc of a Bastille remix of I Bet My Life and The Wombats have latest single Greek Tragedy, available on 7in.

There are also releases from Churches, Gorgon City and Run the Jewels for the alternative fan-base.

Record Store Day has plenty on offer for lifelong vinyl fans, with releases from The Small Faces, Jimi Hendrix, OMD, David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen.

The revival of vinyl has seen a huge jump in sales value since 2008. The total vinyl album market stood at £3.3m in 2009 and by 2014 had increased to £25.9 million.
