A BUNGLING burglar who was caught after police sniffer dogs followed a half-mile trail of his blood has admitted his guilt.

Anthony Fearn was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury after he was arrested following a raid at Tesco in Manchester Road, Westhoughton, last week.

Fearn smashed a hole in a window to enter the store and gashed his leg.

Police on the scene used sniffer dogs and were able to track him to Greensbridge Gardens nearby within 16 minutes of being called at 4.45am on April 14.

Fearn, aged 29, of Glebe Street, Westhoughton, admitted stealing £115 of alcohol from the store when he appeared before magistrates on April 15.

Such were his injuries and the amount of blood on the scene the next day, that some bloody footprints were visible on the car park of the store, which was shut after police cordoned it off.

A Tesco spokesman said the incident had shocked them, but thanked the police for their quick work.

Laura Ord, aged 32, also of Glebe Street, admitted burglary and the assault of a custody detention officer.

Both were bailed until their sentencing hearing on May 7.
