PUNTERS are predicting an election win for Labour in the marginal seat of Bolton West — with one firm receiving more than £10,000 worth of bets on the outcome of the vote.

The constituency is one of the most hotly contested in the country, with Ms Hilling’s majority just 92 votes and this has been reflected in the betting figures.

Betfred has compiled a list of the top seats in the country where punters have been happy to splash the cash — and Bolton West has come in joint 5th place overall.

The bookmakers is offering odds 1/100 for a Labour win— meaning punters would have to spend £100 just to get one back.

The Conservatives are targeting victory in Bolton West and visits from Prime Minister David Cameron among others have helped to place party candidate Chris Green as second favourite, with odds of 9/2.

UKIP are ranked as third favourites, with candidate Bob Horsefield commanding odds of 25/1, while Liberal Democrat hopeful Andrew Martin is not considered in the running at 100/1.

That price has also been offered to the other candidates in the constituency, John Vickers of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition and independent candidate Andy Smith.

The bookies’ has also predicted comfortable wins for Labour in Bolton’s two other consituencies, with Labour candidates David Crausby and Yasmin Qureshi predicted to retain their seats at odds of 1/100.

In Bolton North East, the Tories are second favourites at 20/1, with UKIP third on 33/1 and the Greens and Liberals back on 100/1.

In Bolton South East, punters have been hedging their bets that UKIP will be the second strongest party, with odds of just 16/1, compared to the Conservatives’ 66/1 and the Liberals’ and Greens’ 100.1 odds.

Betfred founder, Fred Done said: “As a bookmaker I am used to expecting the unexpected, myself and the rest of the betting world have been amazed at the phenomenal interest in people who are prepared to take a punt on politics.

“The most popular bets at our 1400 betting shops and online have been for a Labour minority government or a Conservative majority.

“We have also taken significant bets on UKIP being successful — including in Bolton South East.”
