A 95-YEAR-OLD who became an internet sensation after being walked home from the shops by a teenager has spoken for the first time about the kind act.

Student Christian Trouesdale, aged 18, was pictured on the web helping Bob Malloy carry his bags home from Aldi in Horwich.

The photograph, which was taken by an employee at the nearby Jons Fish Bar, has since gone viral and has been shared more than 50,000 times with people from as far away as Australia and Dubai viewing it.

Christian, a store assistant at the shop, had previously helped Mr Malloy with his basket on another occasion, who then knew him by name and asked if he would come to his aid again.

Widower Mr Malloy, who spent most of his working life at Horwich Loco Works, told The Bolton News: "I went into Aldi, and this young lad come to me and asked if I needed any help, and I said yes.

"So he picked a basket up and asked me what I wanted, and he put all the things in the basket for me.

"He went to see the manager and asked if he could walk home with me and help with my bags. It is not so far to get home, but it was a big help.

"I thanked him when I got home, because he helped me out and I was glad of it.

"I got to know him after the first time, he is a really nice lad. There are not many lads like him. It is him that needs thanking. Without him, it wouldn't have happened."

Christian, an A-level student at Rivington and Blackrod High School, said he has been completely blown away by the reaction and said he was just doing something that he would do on any day.

And Christian's school have also praised his caring actions.

Paul Canning, director sixth form at the school, said: "Christian's actions did not surprise me, he is a really good man.

"However, we are surprised how big it has become. It is lovely to see a good and positive news about teenagers, the majority of teenagers are like this."

He added: "Community and citizenship are part of the programme we have at the sixth form alongside the A-level education.

"Christian is very modest but he did get a standing ovation as he walked into one of his classes."

Christian's dad, Darren, said: "It is amazing how far it has been shared across the world, and the reaction that it has got. Christian said he had seen him the shop before, so he asked if he could help out."
