A 66-YEAR-OLD woman was dragged to the ground and robbed in the car park of Morrisons in Heaton.

The woman was walking back to her car after shopping at the store at 8.45pm on Wednesday when she was attacked.

A man approached her, grabbed her bag and pulled her down before dragging her along the ground.

The victim bravely clung to her bag before eventually being overpowered by the man.

He fled with the bag in the direction of Victory Street.

Two young people nearby came to the aid of the woman and chased off the man, and police said they are anxious to speak with them.

The robber was 5ft 8in tall, medium build, wore a dark hooded top and had a scarf covering his face.

Det Sgt Scott Brady said: “The woman was walking in the car park of the Mornington Road store when she was targeted.

"She has been determined this man would not take her belongings and tried to keep hold of her back.

“However, the man pulled at the bag with such force, he dragged her along the ground before she had to let go.

"I am keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the robbery, especially two youths who came to her aid and chased the man off."
