A SHOP worker had a day to remember — after scoring two goals to clinch the league title for his football team and later starring in an episode of Casualty.

Lee Worswick helped Old Boltonians secure their first Premier Division title in the Lancashire Amateur League, scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over Old Blackburnians, before seeing himself star in the latest episode of the long running hospital drama.

Mr Worswick said: "It wasn't a bad day."

The 22-year-old from Bradley Fold combines acting and football with a part time job working for River Island in the Middlebrook Retail Park, but ultimately hopes to make starring on stage and screen his full time occupation.

He says he was not planning on watching himself appear as Joey Silver, a one-off character who is involved in a fire with a girl he is in love with.

But following their historic victory, which the first Premier Division title that the Old Boltonians had won in 29 years, the players went to the pub and his teammates asked staff to turn on Casualty.

Mr Worswick said: "No one had said anything — but I came back from the bar with a pint in my hand and the next thing I knew they had changed the channel, so they were all having a laugh."

It is not the first high profile show Lee has appeared in, with many acting credits to his name including Coronation Street, Waterloo Road, Holby City and BBC comedy show Drop Dead Gorgeous.

He started acting at the age of six.

He added: "At about six or seven I just got sent to do some acting lessons by my parents to help increase my confidence, and improve my personal skills.

"I just love it, when you are on set it doesn't feel like work. I have always had the ambition to do something that I love doing, and that I want to get out of bed for in the morning."

Lee, a former pupil at Blackshaw Primary School and then Canon Slade School, gained a number of parts after being signed to Bury based Linton Management from a young age.

Now he has signed with London based Creative Artists Management, which counts Sherlock and Lord of the Rings star Martin Freeman as one of its clients.

He has recently had auditions in London for a feature film and a BBC comedy, and hopes he will emulate the likes of Martin Freeman in the future.
