Two men threatened a shop assistant with a meat cleaver during a robbery in Tyldesley.

Shortly after 8.30pm on Monday 4 May 2015 two men wearing masks walked into The Weekender off-license on Elliot Street in Tyldesley and approached the counter.

One man threatened the shop assistant with a meat cleaver and demanded cash, whilst the other man stole alcohol and cigarettes. Both men then fled the shop.

The man with the meat cleaver is described as being of medium build, and was wearing a beige balaclava, light blue top with a print of an animal on the front, gloves, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

The second man is described as being of medium build, and was wearing a navy hooded top with the hood pulled up, light-coloured tracksuit bottoms and he was carrying a plastic bag.

He was wearing a mask in the style of “V for Vendetta.”

Detective Constable Brian Johnston of Wigan division said: “To be confronted by a man with a meat cleaver was a terrifying experience and the man was shaken by what happened.

“We want to catch these two men and stop them from using any more violence, so I would urge you to look closely at the CCTV images and if you recognise either of the men, to contact police immediately.”
