A CAR ploughed into the front of an estate agent's shop after the driver lost control of her car in Westhoughton.

The silver Mercedes smashed into True Shone and Kerr in Market Street at about 7.30am today.

It is believed the car was travelling along King Street when the 50-year-old female driver lost control, crashing in to a bollard at the end of the street before smashing in to the estate agent's shop window.

The car crashed through the front window of the shop, shattering the glass frontage and dislodging the Lloyds TSB cash machine from the wall at the side of the shop.

Director Stacey Kerr said: "We are lucky that it happened out of business hours as my colleague's desk is just behind the window.

"She was taken to hospital for shock but she had not come to any harm, luckily.

"It's just lucky that it wasn't at a time when pedestrians were around or that we were in the shop."

Police said no-one was seriously injured and they are not treating the crash as a criminal matter.

The driver was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital "as a precaution", the North West Ambulance Service said, and she is believed to have been suffering from shock.

The shop front has been cordoned off, but the shop is still open as usual.
