A BOLTON teacher and award winning chef who once made mulled wine for the Queen is auctioning off a dinner party to raise money for charity.

Michael Hales, 40, now hospitality and catering teacher at Salford City College will be creating a six course meal of molecular gastronomy in the vein of Heston Blumenthal at the lucky winner’s home.

The event will be raising money for Gill Taylor, a family friend who suffers from Fibromyalgia and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome which were brought on by stroke in 2010.

The 54 year old, who previously worked in the disability care sector, is now trying to raise money for a new wheelchair and to get her level three sign language qualification which could mean that she could return to work.

Gill’s son, Jay Standish, 28, said: “Without a wheelchair my mum wouldn’t be able to get about and do everyday things. She wouldn’t be able to nip to the shop or anything so it’s a massive help.

“The NHS one she’s got is really heavy and the battery life isn’t amazing, it’s hurting her back too so it’s really impractical and she struggles with it.

“Alongside this event, I’m running Chester Marathon and cycling the coast-to-coast in August to raise the £1,200 we need for the wheelchair that she needs.”

Michael, said: “I’m really inspired by people like Jay and his mum and that’s why I wanted to help him raise money for her.

“I will curate the menu with whoever wins the auction and tailor make it to their requirements. I’m also willing to travel anywhere in the UK to the winning bidder’s house.”

Michael is no stranger to illness himself, having had two tumours removed from his neck, causing him to lose his voice four years ago.

That hasn’t stopped the award winning chef, who appeared on U.S TV show ‘Aunt Jean’s Cook Off’ After last year and who now teaches at Salford City College and HMP Manchester.

The auction is open from 8am on May 25 to 12pm on June 15.
