A WOMAN had to be cut from a car after a crash on Crompton Way.

The female driver of a Honda Jazz was trapped and had to be freed from her car by firefighters using specialist equipment.

The incident, which also involved a Peugeot 307, happened outside the Lidl store at about 4pm today.

Police and firefighters were at the scene for more than an hour dealing with the crash, and closed the road off at the junction of Blackburn Road.

A spokesman for the fire service said that the woman was placed on a spine board and taken to hospital for checks.

The road has since re-opened.
