A UNIQUE project to help people remember the "good old days" has been hailed a success.

Handy hints on keeping and recording memories have attracted a steady stream of visitors to Breightmet Library.

The Breightmet Fold Lane library already hosts sessions on Tuesdays each week for people directly, or indirectly affected by dementia.

And to mark Dementia Awareness Week they also hosted an information open day, where groups who can offer support to people affected by memory problems were available to give advice.

Visitors particularly enjoyed learning about different ways in which to preserve memories, including making scrapbooks, recording life stories and creating memory boxes.

A Bolton Council spokeswoman said the event was very successful.

"People enjoyed learning about how memories can be kept vivid and were able to access all sorts of information and support," she said.

The Come Here and Please Talk and Reminisce (CHAPTAR) group meets at the library every Tuesday from 2pm to 3pm.

In addition, Bolton Library and Museum service has two Dementia Friends champions, who are in the process of training all staff to become more aware of the condition and help break down stigmas in the community.
