A HOMELESS man who was beaten up in Bolton town centre is recovering well after an operation to remove four blood clots from his brain.

Vinny Green was attacked in Knowsley Street near the Fred Dibnah statue two weeks ago by two men.

The ordeal left the father-of-three with a fractured skull, broken cheekbone and spinal damage, and a bleed on his brain.

The 50-year-old's rucksack with all his personal belongings, including clothes and his wallet, was also stolen

His daughter Chelsea Booth, aged 21, from Astley Bridge, said he is upbeat after the surgery.

Mum-of-two Miss Booth said: "He is recovering well thankfully. The surgeon got rid of four blood clots, including the really big one that was on his forehead. He was awake through it and had local anaesthetic.

"He's in a lot of pain and is on antibiotics and pain killers. He will have to go back to the hospital so they can check he's healing well but for now he's just recovering.

"He's staying at a bed and breakfast for now but I'm hoping that he will be given a more permanent address once he's well."

Members of the community group Help the Homeless and Needy in Bolton are offering support to Mr Green by taking him to his hospital appointments and supplying him with food.

Organiser Billa Ahmed said: "We are doing what we can for him. The response from the Bolton News article has been really positive — so many people have got in touch asking after his welfare.

"We will do what we can to help get him re-homed once he has got better but I do think that there should be more help to get people like Vinny integrated back into society once they have been re-homed so that they are not in danger of ending up back on the streets."

No arrests have been made, but police are looking for two white males aged 20 to 21 years old in connection with the incident.

One is described as medium build and approximately 5ft 8ins, and the other is slim build, 5ft 9ins with a distinctive tattoo on his cheek saying 'Kim'.

He was wearing a red T-shirt, denim jeans and sunglasses. If anyone has any information, call 101.
