A HUGE wall mural depicting real-life scenes from yesteryear is the talk of a Halliwell pub.

Talented artist Lenny Stevens created the artwork using an airbrush on the back wall of the Stork Tavern, Halliwell Road.

The mural features images including housewives scrubbing their doorsteps in the 1930s, a wash house in action and a row of terraced houses in Hill Top.

Mr Stevens, who lives in Heaton with his girlfriend and their five children, has previously created wall art for Stingin Ink tattoo shop, Chorley Old Road.

Jan Parker-Brooks, the pub's landlady, asked him to create an eye-catching design based on a collection of old photographs.

She said: "We had the pub done up 12 months ago.

"I was putting pictures up and generally dressing the place because it was a bit boring.

"I wanted original framed photos of old Bolton and Halliwell because it's a community pub.

"It's amazing, it's even better than I imagined.

"It's the biggest talking point. Everybody that comes in can relate to it."

Mr Stevens, who went to Thornleigh School, said: "I put them in the order they were going to go on the wall and I just cracked on with it.

"It's pictures of the areas of Halliwell.

"A lot of people have seen it on Facebook. The pictures don't do it justice.

"People should go to the pub and check it out for real."

It took him six-and-a-half days and he recently put the finishing touches to the giant painting which has been attracting positive comments from customers.

Mr Stevens, aged 36, said: "I've been doing art for as long as I can remember.

"It's all I ever used to do at school.

"The teachers just got used to it.

"I got my first airbrush kit in 2003. I had a little mess around with it and did a few pictures."

He has also done a mural on a young family member's bedroom wall, complete with Formula One and rally cars.
