POLICE are investigating after a man suffered mystery head and neck injuries near Bolton town centre in the early hours of this morning.

The 27-year-old needed hospital treatment after he woke up in the underpass between Castle Street and Churchgate.

He was taken to hospital with cuts to his neck and head, but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

The man had no memory of how he came by the injuries in the incident, which happened at 12.50am this morning.

A police investigation is underway but no-one has been arrested.

Police were initially investigating whether the man had been stabbed, but now say they have ruled out that possibility.
