A PLUCKY barmaid jumped at the chance to fundraise for a teenager who suffered devastating injuries after being involved in a devastating car accident.

Danielle Potter, aged 22, did a sponsored skydive at Black Knights Parachute Centre Cockerham, dropping 15,000 feet from a plane on Saturday before hosting a fundraising event at the Grapes Hotel in Stoneclough, where she works.

Her 18-year-old cousin Charlie Potter is still in Salford Royal Infirmary unable to walk, talk or react to things since the crash in January 2014.

Miss Potter raised more than £1,500 towards The Charlie Potter Fund, set up by Newbury Youth Club, Farnworth, to help pay for his future care.

Miss Potter, who lives in Kearsley, said: "It was a fantastic feeling. I don't think I've come down from it all yet.

"I was more nervous about the fundraiser than the skydive to be honest — I was so busy organising that I didn't have time to worry too much about jumping out of the plane.

"I got there early and went up in the first plane with some formation jumpers who went out at 7,000 feet. I then went up to 15,000 feet.

"I had five minutes of training before I went up to tell me where my legs and arms needed to be, but that was it. The person I went up with did the rest. It was nerve wracking when I was hanging out of the plane and seeing all the clouds.

"I can't explain how it felt. It was a two-mile freefall where I could barely breathe — then when the parachute went up it was amazing."

Miss Potter then travelled the pub where she hosted live bands, raffles and competitions.

She said: "It was a brilliant day and I'm so pleased I could help towards Charlie's future. He didn't leave my thoughts all day — it was very emotional.

"We don't know what his future will hold yet as we don't know the extent of his injuries, but when he leaves hospital he has a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him, so I just want to so anything I can to help him."
