BOLTON basked in the sun on the town hall steps to make the most of the heatwave — but the fair weather is not expected to last.

The steps were flooded with lunchtime shoppers and workers wanting to catch the sun today but, with rain being forecast for much of tomorrow afternoon, they may be trying to find shelter.

Temperatures are expected to be higher than today, with a maximum of 28°C, and sunny spells throughout the morning will mean a bright start to the day.

But The Met Office says that there will be heavy rain from about noon tomorrow, with lighter showers later on before drying up into the evening.

Residents are being urged to stay safe during the hot spell by keeping hydrated, wearing sunscreen and staying in the shade.

Advanced paramedic Sam English, from the North West Ambulance Service, said: “The warm weather is a pleasant change but it can create various problems, particularly for the chronically sick, elderly, babies and young children and those who are fasting for Ramadan.

"The biggest risk during these hot spells is dehydration which is often characterised by lethargy, cramps, dizziness or confusion."
