A HORWICH writer saw his dreams come to reality — while on set for the filming of the second series of gripping television drama Prey.

Chris Lunt was at the Wilson and Co Vauxhall dealership on Manchester Road in Bolton for two days of filming, which featured Life on Mars star Philip Glenister as well as Rosie Cavaliero, who is reprising her role as Detective Superintendent Susan Reinhardt in the ITV series.

The Bolton News was invited on set for the filming, with the car dealership being used as part of a scene in the second episode of the series, which features a completely new storyline.

Glenister plays prison officer David Murdoch, whose life is turned upside down when he finds out that his heavily pregnant daughter, Emma, played by Bolton actress Sammy Winward, is threatened.

In his desperation, Murdoch, who learns of his daughters predicament while on a routine visit to a Manchester hospital, chains himself to female prisoner Jules Hope as a bargaining tool.

DS Reinhardt is then tasked with trying to find out why Murdoch is behaving out of character, with thrilling car chases and other action scenes set to jump out of our screens.

The scene filmed in the Manchester Road dealership involved DS Reinhardt and her colleague Detective Constable Iddon, played by Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, interviewing Emma's boyfriend Alan Gill, played by Daniel Ezra, who works at the garage.

The first series of the show, which starred Glenister's Life on Mars co-star John Simm, gained critical acclaim and was nominated in the 2015 Bafta Television Awards mini-series category, as well as attracting 5.5 million viewers.

Chris, who became a writer full-time after taking redundancy from a graphics company, scored his first TV series with Prey and says it is thrilling to see his work come to life.

The 44-year-old said: "Its so exciting. I am so chuffed, because we never anticipated doing a second series.

"As soon as it was said to me, I was really excited about revisiting the world of some of the characters, and finding out what happened to Reinhardt."

The new series has also been filmed in Manchester, Salford and on the Blackpool Golden Mile.

Chris, a former pupil at Rivington and Blackrod High School, says everything is "just a little bit bigger" this time round.

The father of two added: "Because Prey was my first TV series I wasn't really aware of the constraints of drama, so I put some on myself perhaps, so when I was writing the second one I didn't worry too much about whether something could or could not be filmed."

A teaser trailer for the new series is expected to be released in the coming weeks, and the show will be shown later this year.
