NINE cars were stolen in 36 hours in Bolton, sparking a security warning from police.

Residents are being reminded to keep car keys away from windows and out of the view of potential thieves.

Householders should also use timer lights to give the illusion that someone is in, The thefts came in four separate burglaries in Bolton between July 6 and 8.

Supt Andrea Jones said: “Don’t make it easy for thieves to get what they want, consider using preventative measures and make sure you’re doing all you can to protect your property.

“Securing your home doesn’t have to be costly, simple measures such as keeping car keys out of view or using light timers to give the impression somebody is at home can be enough to deter burglars.

“Ensure you have security lighting, park your car in the garage if possible or consider installing a gate or vehicle security posts.

"Remember if you get burgled and they take your car, then you will be claiming on both your house and car insurance, possibly increasing your premiums and losing your no claims bonus."
