A THREE-day extravaganza has been announced for the first Bolton Pride festival.

A host of singers, acts and famous faces have been revealed in the line up, along with a number of LGBT friendly activities which will take place between October 16 and 18.

The launch event, held at the Bolton Whites Hotel, saw performances from from The Voice star Joe Keegan and Dolly Parton tribute act Kennedy Caitlin, as well as speeches from organisers James Edgington and Mark Geary, and Sergeant Paul Ellis, from Greater Manchester Police

An eight-minute video was also played to name acts taking part in the festival weekend, including Charley Healy from The Risk and the Honeybuns from Britain's Got Talent.

The event has also attracted support from a number of famous faces including Eastenders actress Jo Joyner and former Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccleston.

Organiser James Edgington said: "We don't want to make Bolton gay-friendly for one weekend, we want to make it LGBT-friendly all year round."

On Friday October 16 a Football vs Homophobia tournament will - literally - kick the weekend off featuring local teams hosted and created by the LGBT charity.

That evening a glitzy Bolton Pride dinner dance will celebrate the LGBT community with an award ceremony and singing performances including Joe, who was in 'Team Kylie' on the BBC1 singing show.

Joe said: "I am honoured to be invited to perform at such an important event for Bolton."

There will also be a cabaret featuring former Big Brother star Wolfy, from Bolton, as well as a club night, a family event and candle light vigil to remember those who have been affected by hate crime.

Sgt Ellis said: "Hate crime affects more people than any other crime. We need to change the attitude of certain sections of society and educate people in what is a hate crime."

Wolfy added: "I am behind any event that celebrates the LGBT community in Bolton."

Unison north west LGBT group is sponsoring the event. Co-chairs Eileen Best and John McSwiggan said it was an important event for the town.

Ms Best said: "We are delighted to be part of this fantastic event, supporting Bolton Pride. We hope to be part of the community events over the weekend such as the vigil."
