POLICE smashed a cannabis farm worth about £200,000.

They raided a house in Calvert Road, Great Lever today, finding 408 plants.

The farm, described as 'sophisticated', had been maintained after the farmers bypassed the electricity supply.

Engineers had to carry out emergency repair work as the growers had left it in a dangerous condition.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis.

A cannabis plant will commonly yield between £400 and £500 over the course of a year, meaning the Great Lever haul is valued at between £163,200 and £204,000.
