FAMILIES are being urged to send in their family selfies to feature in a new exhibition at the Octagon Theatre.

The gallery will be displayed to mark the opening of its latest play — Bolton playwright Bill Naughton's The Family Way.

The Octagon’s exciting interim season launches with The Family Way (4 September – 3 October): a funny and intimate portrayal of family life written by celebrated local playwright Bill Naughton and directed by new Artistic Director, Elizabeth Newman.

The play is a heart-warming story about the mischief and amusements of family life in 1960s Bolton and follows the frustrating fumbles of newlyweds Violet and Arthur Fitton who, still living in the family home, have to deal with Arthur’s loudmouth father, interfering brother, and stern mother, not to mention meddling in-laws, and family friends.

Actress and star of The Family Way Jessica Baglow, said: “I’m delighted once again to be part of another Octagon production, and Elizabeth Newman’s first official show as Artistic Director. The Family Way is a beautifully told story about the awkward beginnings of a couple’s married life in 1960s Bolton and celebrates the constancy of familial love.

"It’s a play we can all relate to; it’s about growing up and saying goodbye. It reminds us that your family can drive you insane, but you’d be lost without them.”

A spokesman for the theatre added: "To celebrate this fantastic production and the theme of family, the Octagon Theatre is inviting the Bolton community to send in pictures of themselves with their own families.

"Whether you’re enjoying a birthday or mid-argument, camping by the sea or stuck in traffic, we want to see pictures of your family that truly show them being their brilliant, if occasionally maddening, selves.

"The funniest, most heart-warming, and touching snapshots will be selected by the cast and creative team to feature in a special gallery exhibition in the Octagon Theatre bar, where they will remain for the duration of the show’s run, for all audiences to appreciate.

"The winning families will also be invited to a special guest evening event, which will include food, drink, the unveiling of the images and, of course, free tickets to the show."

To enter, send a copy of your selected photograph to the Octagon by 5pm on Sunday August 17 with a few lines describing your family and what is happening in the picture.

Copies can be emailed to info@octagonbolton.co.ukor you can drop them in at the theatre's box office.
