A PRIMARY school has hosted a conference for youngsters based around Christian values.

The Children's Ethos Conference was staged by Bishop Bridgeman CE Primary School in Great Lever and activities including perfume making as well as art and music.

Children from more than 30 schools from Bolton and further afield attended the conference.

Workshops included exploring Christian values through art, music and drama and young people discussed which values were more important.

Children created two different perfumes, naming them 'honesty' and 'trust' — two important values of Christianity.

Staff from the different schools took part in a session to look at the development of an ethos group in their own school.

The Bishop of Middleton, the Rt Revd Mark Davies, was the special guest and attended in his capacity as Chairman of the board of Education at the diocese.

Schools from two Anglican diocese and one Roman Catholic diocese attended and had a chance to quiz experts, with the day ending with the panel answering questions from children, which included how a Christian ethos in the school had impacted on standards and attendance.

Head teacher of Bishop Bridgeman CE Primary School Gill Pilling said: "It was amazing. This is the third year we have held the conference and it just gets better and better.

"Some children were quite nervous at the start and by the end they found out that they had made new friends.

"This year we had a media team filming it and our pupils interviewed the Bishop, with the film being shown at the end."

The conference will be back next year and the Bishop of Manchester the Rt Rev Dr David Walker will be attending.

Each child took away a goodie bag packed with activities.
