DINNER lady turned teacher Susan Taylor is finally hanging up her apron — after 28 years at school.

Mrs Taylor has done just about every job going at Sharples Primary — as well as being a member of the parent teacher association.

The mum-of-three even taught her own son Luke — now 23 — at one point in her career.

Mrs Taylor said: "I qualified as a teacher and had taken time off when my eldest daughter, Rebecca, who is now 31, was born.

"When she started the school, I joined the PTA and became a dinner lady.

"I have been working at the school for 28 years and teaching for 19 years."

She added: "I have enjoyed it. I will miss the children, they are so caring, and of course the staff.

"I have made many friends and because I live just 10 minutes away from school, I have told them they can come over anytime during their dinner break.

"I will still see the children walking to school and no doubt I will still pop into school every so often to see the children."

Mrs Taylor who is married to Brian and is also mum to Katie, aged 28, added: "It felt like the right time to retire.

"I will be able to do all the things I haven't been able to do."

Children made sure her last day was memorable, with a special show featuring all her favourite things, including doing the Thriller Dance, which she used to do with her year three class, and singing Take That hits.

There was also an appearance by 'David Beckham' and a special Mastermind quiz on her favourite subject — the Tudors.
