FIREFIGHTERS are set to remain at a blaze which destroyed two barns in Astley for the next few days.

The fire, at Morley’s Hall Farm, destroyed about 500 tonnes of straw in the two barns.

The fire service is expected to remain at the scene for the coming days to ensure that the blaze has been fully extinguished.

A spokesman said firefighters were working to make sure that it did not spread to the nearby Grade II* listed Morley’s Hall.

Crews were called out at about 11.10pm last night, and are still there this morning.

The blaze is said to have been caused by self heating within the straw.
