A MAN who kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach was jailed for six months.

Daniel Woodworth, aged 26, carried out the assault after turning up drunk at his victim's flat looking for his partner in June 2014.

District Judge Khalid Qureshi, at Manchester and Salford magistrates’ court, said “This was as serious as it gets for a common assault.

“You were drunk and belligerent and knew the woman was 13 weeks pregnant. Thankfully no harm was caused to the baby.

“But I can imagine the stress and upset you must have caused her”.

Woodworth of Aspinal Drive, Little Hulton, was convicted after trial on two counts of assault, damage and twice failing to answer his bail.

Prosecutor Shazia Aslam said he had twice thumped the woman in the face and also grabbed her partner round the throat. After kicking a hole in the front door he fled from the flat.

Carl Mills, defending, said: "He deeply regrets what he did."

The judge gave Woodworth a three-year restraining order banning him from contacting the woman.
