MEMBERS of St Paul's players in Adlington are like bees around a honey pot as they get ready for the group's latest production.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee promises to be something completely different, as it follows the trials and tribulations of a number of spellers as they grapple with their differences, similarities and emotions while competing in a contest.

The play is set in the fictitious Putnam County and is an insight into the competitive nature of an America tradition, the spelling bee.

Those who attend to watch will also have to be on the ball — each night 'spellers' will be required from the audience to take part, and the young, enthusiastic and very talented cast are working hard and producing a show that will have the audience laughing from start to finish.

The show is directed by Beth Eccleshare, principal of Rhapsody Academy, who is also directing one of the the Octagon Theatre's community pieces in the middle of September.

She said: "I have been wanting to direct Spelling Bee for a long time now, and even though it is not widely known I can promise that it will be a very entertaining night out."

She teams up with her husband James, who is organising the music, for the first time since they wed.

Chairman Graham Cohen said: "Adlington audiences are in for an absolute treat.

"The production team recently invited committee members to attend an open rehearsal so that they could practice with an 'audience' and it proved to be a hilarious evening. We are very proud of this enthusiastic and talented young team."

The show runs from the September 2 until 5 at Adlington community centre from 7:30pm. Tickets are available from Adlington post office, by calling the ticket hotline 07403 287120, or from the St. Paul's website stpaulsplayers.co.uk.
