NEW Top Gear presenter Chris Evans is still being driven crazy by his love for Bolton's Carrs Pasties.

The world-famous radio presenter ordered the tasty treats for a music festival at his Surrey pub — and an employee drove 200 miles to drop them off.

Chris, also famous for hosting TFI Friday and The One Show, decided to hold an impromptu festival at the Mulberry Inn in Chiddingfold, and was searching for a caterer to make sure his guests did not go hungry.

And Chris looked no further than Manchester Road-based Carrs, which he has endorsed many times in the past and rates as the "finest" pasties in the country.

The firm dispatched Keith O'Hara from its customer service department to the pub, which is about 230 miles away from Bolton and a four-hour drive.

Carrs only received a call from Chris on the morning of the event, which included a performance from hit US blues musician Seasick Steve, but decided to go all out to cater for the party because of his support in the past.

Joe Carr, one of the directors of the family run firm, said: "Chris had some time off from work and just decided he was going to have a last minute festival at his pub, I think he even camped out in the pub's garden.

"We got a call from Chris's assistant who asked could if we get some pasties there as soon as possible, I don't think they realised how far it was from Bolton but we were happy to oblige.

"Chris has done so much to promote us over the years, we felt we had to help. We send our pasties around the country with our courier service, and Chris has pasties sent to his house as well."

It is not the first time that Carrs has catered for an event at his pub, with celebrities such as Gary Barlow, the rock band Stereophonics and singer James Blunt sampling the Bolton delicacy during a Children in Need event last year.

Mr Carr added: "Chris loves our thin pastry which melts in the mouth, and in particular our Lancashire pasty with good quality meat and potato. We were happy to go the extra mile."

On his Twitter account, Chris tweeted: "Keith from Carrs Pasties has just driven down from BOLTON to deliver us 150 of the finest in the land."

Chris's love affair with Carrs Pasties started in 2012 at a Help for Heroes charity golf event at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, when he received a sample from the firm on the day.

In summer 2013, fellow BBC Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox treated guests at her wedding reception to Carrs pasties who were left raving about her hometown staple.

Carrs Pasties is sponsoring the Family Business of the Year award at this year's Bolton and Bury Business Awards on September 10.
