SEVERAL people have been taken to hospital after a car smashed into two other vehicles before hitting a pedestrian.

Police were called to Derby Street in Daubhill at about 12.30pm. A blue Volkswagen Golf is believed to have collided with a red Toyota Yaris and another red Toyota, before hitting a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a man in his late thirties, was taken to hospital with shoulder and head injuries but police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said another driver was also taken to hospital, but could not provide more details about their injuries.

The road was shut for several hours but has now reopened.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called to Derby Street in Daubhill to a road traffic collision involving three cars and a pedestrian.

“There were no major injuries suffered and the road has now been reopened.”

Eyewitness Stacey Powell, aged 27, saw the crash from her flat in Linslade Gardens in Derby Street.

She said: “I saw a blue Volkswagen come speeding down the road, it looked like it was doing at least twice the speed limit or more.

“It smashed into a red Toyota, making a noise like a massive explosion, before hitting another car.

“The Volkswagen then carried on down the road and hit a pedestrian who went flying up in the air.

“The car went onto the pavement and two Asian men got out of the vehicle and ran down a side street.

“They were brought to the police by members of the community who ran after them and caught them.

“It is absolutely ridiculous – every day there are cars constantly speeding down this road and it happens all through the hours.

“Sometimes it looks like they are going faster than 100 miles per hour and this is a community where there are disabled people and older people. How long will it be before they kill someone?”

Aftab Din, who also lives in Derby Street, witnessed the aftermath of the crash. The 20-year-old said: “Daubhill and Deane Road are dangerous roads.

“People do not even bother parking in the bays, and just stop in the bus lanes.

“They always park on double yellow lines and don’t care about others.

“It will not be long until there is a death.”
