A FAMILY has completed a 500 mile cycling mission to raise funds for charity.

Peter Hackin, aged 51, his daughter Amy, aged 19 and son Adam, aged 16, cycled from Manchester to Dublin.

The challenge, which took five days, came about after friend Joanne Gedders was diagnosed with throat cancer.

In support of Joanne, an avid fundraiser herself- who was helping to organise the cycle until she was diagnosed- the family got on their bikes to raise money to fight the cause.

The family completed almost 100 miles a day and passed through three countries ending in Dublin before cycling back.

Dad of two Mr Hackin, of Markland Hill, Bolton said : "We cycled about 35 miles a day in preparation for it so it was a bit of a shock to the system.

"We are a sporting family but we are not ideal cyclists in build as we are quite a tall family with all of us over 6ft so its not exactly what you want for cycling.

"We had horrendous weather from start to finish which made it hard when you have got 18mph head wind- it doubles the job but we made it.

"Me and my son haven't been on a bike since but my daughter is looking at doing another bike ride for charity next year so we might sign up for that."

The family raised £600 and will be donating the money to The Christie Charity.
