BOLTON band The Jade Assembly will take centre stage in their hometown for a special Bank Holiday weekend extravaganza.

The four-piece indie rock group will kick the weekend off with an appearance at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival followed by a return to The Blind Tiger in Nelson Square supporting former Catfish and the Bottle Men guitarist Billy Bibby.

The Jade Assembly, featuring John Foster, Andy Watson, Danny Hayes and Gareth Smedley, will put on their intimate acoustic set at the Bolton venue on Saturday, August 29.

The bank holiday fun will continue at the Nelson Square venue on the Sunday for the #NotAFestival event, featuring fellow Bolton bands Bone idols, Bigfoot and Peur.

Guitar and vocalist John said: "It's going to be a really good weekend. We'll be playing at the food and drink festival again and then Andy the drummer and I will be doing an acoustic set at the Blind Tiger.

"We'll be playing a couple of new songs and a few classics. It'll be a great gig for us. We have a great relationship with the Blind Tiger and love playing there. Plus all our friends and family come out to see us when we play in Bolton so it always ends up being a packed out venue."

The band have gone from strength to strength in the last two years and released single One Last Time in May. They hope release their first full-length album soon.

John said: "We have been doing this for quite a while now and it's starting to take off, and we're finally getting where we want to be.

"The last couple of years especially have been fantastic. We did our single launch and we haven't stopped since. It's great to be able to do what you want to do and for other people to enjoy it."

Their most recent major slot was at Kendal Calling, situated in the Lake District.

John said: "I love playing festivals. I think Kendal Calling was our best yet — we had a really good slot and the atmosphere was amazing.

"The good thing about festivals, including the Bolton Food and Drink Festival, is that we have the chance to tap into a different audience — people with young families for example might not be able to make a traditional gig at a music venue, so this is a chance for us to play in from of them."

Following their Bank Holiday appearance, the band will head to Bury to take part in this year's Glaston-Bury event.

John said: "We've played there a couple of times and it's got bigger each year. It's where all the venues in Bury put on live music in aid of Bury Hospice. It's a real honour to be asked to play there again."
