THE BGA league semi-finals, sponsored by the Bank Top Brewery, will be played on September 6, at both Old Links and Great Lever clubs respectively.

The two league champions have the honour of holding their semi-finals at home this year with Old Links hosting their semi-final against Dunscar while Great Lever will accommodate Breightmet.

Both Great Lever and Old Links got off to a powerful start in their respective leagues when both teams won their first four matches with some ease.

Great Lever included two 7½-½ victories against Dunscar at home and away at Horwich while Old Links went a step further with their first four successive wins including a 6½-1½ dubbing against Regent Park followed by a significant 8–0 home whitewash against Breightmet.

Meanwhile Dunscar lost both their early matches before producing a 6–2 away win at Bolton.

Horwich looked favourites for a semi-final place until two late losses at the end of their season gave Dunscar a life-line who produced a strong finish with two wins and a draw which gave them a semi-final place.

Breightmet were strong throughout their campaign with only the one major blip against Old Links.

Nevertheless, they were pushed by both Hart Common and Deane until Turton came up on the rails to give Breightmet a scare.

In the end, Breightmet went through to the semi-finals with just four points in hand.

Old Links and Great Lever will be favourites both with home advantage and a their strong teams but Dunscar and Breightmet are always in with a chance and will be doing their best to reach the final.

The final will be played on September 20 at Westhoughton Golf Club providing neutral territory.
