YOUNG gardeners at Eagley Infant School are jumping for joy after being hailed for their green-fingered skills.

The school won the national schools third prize in the Cultivation Street national gardening competition for its outdoor classroom.

Pupils have been hands on leading the project which was chosen from hundreds of entries from all over Britain vying for £20,000 of prizes.

Teaching assistant Lynn Clarkson said: "The project has been very much lead by the children and what they wanted to do.

"We are absolutely thrilled to win the award, especially as we were up against all the other schools."

David Domoney from ITV's 'Love your Garden' has been running Cultivation Street in conjunction the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA).

The campaign aims to promote the inspiring stories of community spirit and success, and Eagley Infant School won £500 in gardening vouchers for achieving the commended third place.

Judges for the awards included figures from Kew Gardens, HRH The Princes Foundation, the Director General of the HTA and the President of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture.
