A YOB who punched and kicked cars after a row with his mother has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Bolton magistrates heard how Dexter Hine went on the rampage at 2am on August 24 after a night out in Farnworth.

Tess Kenyon, prosecuting, told the court that witnesses saw 23-year-old Hine attack four cars, a Ford Focus, a Toyota Corolla, and Alfa Romeo and a Peugeot 107, parked in Worsley Road, Farnworth, causing damage estimated at £1,250.

Police were called and drunken Hine, who was already subject to suspended prison sentence for previous offences, was arrested.

“He said he was raging and can’t remember what happened because he was drunk,” said Miss Kenyon.

Peter Leather, defending, said Hine had called his father to collect him that night because he feared he would be attacked by a group of youths.

But when his father turned up, his car needed a tyre changing and Hine got involved in a row with his mother, who also arrived at the scene.

“He had some sort of disagreement with his mother and at that point he seems to have lost control of his emotions and faculties,” said Mr Leather.

“When he has too much to drink he becomes aggressive. It is something he deeply regrets and wants to apologise to all concerned.”

Hine, a father-of-one, from Ladyhill View, Worsley, pleaded guilty to four counts of causing criminal damage.

Mr Leather appealed to the magistrates not to activate the suspended prison sentence.

But the justices decided the repeated damage to the cars was so serious that they must jail him.

Hine was also ordered to pay a £150 criminal court charge and £80 victim surcharge.
