A CAR flipped onto its roof in a two-car crash outside the White Horse pub in Edgworth.

Witnesses said a Volkswagen Passat pulled out from Bury Road and was clipped by a Fiat 500 coming down Broadhead Road.

The Fiat 500 rolled on to its roof as a result of the crash.

It is understood no one was injured in the crash at 5.15pm.

Police, ambulance and the fire service were called to the scene.

Onlookers said one of the people involved was an off-duty police officer.

The road has now re-opened.

The incident happened outside of the White Horse Inn where Kirsty Entwistle was working at the time.

She said: "I heard this massive bang and went to the window where I saw the car flip right over.

"I went running across the road towards the car and saw the guy roll out of the door.

"He just jumped up on to his feet and everyone was trying to get him to sit down."

Landlord Alex Dickenson added: "I saw the cars crash and it's amazing no one was hurt.

"Something needs to be done about that road. There was huge accident there last year and if it carries on like this someone could get hurt again."

Residents have spoken out about their concerns over the road and junction.

A meeting was held at The Barlow Institute in the village on Thursday night to discuss how to make the crossing safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

Edgworth resident Eileen Pilling said: "It happens too often at that junction. There are crashes there all the time.

"I think the people involved are okay - just walking wounded.

"But you get youngsters going to the shops there and one of them could very easily be hurt.

"There has already been a death at that junction not that long ago.

"It is a dangerous junction."

Last year a pensioner died a month after a crash at the same junction.

Patricia Rudkin, aged 85, of Woodhey Road, Ramsbottom was a passenger in a Peugeot 206 which pulled out onto Broadhead Road, at the junction with Bury Road.

She suffered a broken leg and broken wrists in the crash on June 22, 2014.

The car she was in was involved in a crash with a Bentley Continental which was travelling along Broadhead Road towards Bolton.
