A BOLTON wrestling club are toasting the efforts of two of their talented youngsters.

Harvey Ridings and Kelsey Barnes from Sharples Wrestling Club battled hard to book their place in the finals of their respective weight categories in the Jelgava Open in Riga, Latvia.

Ridings picked up silver in the 34kg category and Barnes was also runner-up in the 52kg category.

Ridings, aged 12, and Barnes, aged 13, are two of the youngest wrestlers on the National Talent Squad.

The other two Sharples wrestlers also on their international debuts Malachy O'Rourke and Zach Brown also put in good performances and both winning their first matches before being eliminated from the competition in the next round.

Eddy Kavanagh coach at Sharples said: "I am are pleased with Harvey's and Kelsey's performances and their progression along the talent pathway is going extremely well.

"This is the first time they have travelled to another country without their parents and to win two silver medals on their first international experience is a magnificent achievement."
